Canned and Canning

When food or any items are stored in a can, we call them canned goods or canned whatever. If you have peas, you have canned peas. If you have canned beets, you have canned beets instead of fresh ones.

The word canned comes from the process known as canning. This is when items are put into cans, and are then sealed tightly with some sort of vacuum process to remove all of the air in them which might cause their contents to spoil.

Canning things such as food helps preserve them, but always remember, nothing that is ever canned has an "infinite" shelf life.

Things always expire and can spoil, especially if they were once organic or alive such as foods.

When using canned goods, always pay attention to any expiration dates which might exist. If none can be found on the can and you cannot establish how old its contents are, please play it safe and NEVER take a chance and try to eat them.
